The Heritage Tea Rooms are located approximately 35kms north-west from Townsville on Thornton's Gap Road, Hervey's Range. The historic split log inn - the oldest known building in North Queensland was built in 1865. Formerly the Eureka Hotel, it sits around 400metres above sea level and is often 5 degrees cooler than Townsville. The Tea Rooms are surrounded by shady trees and dry tropical bushland. A well presented establishment can truly boast about its place in the North with several prestigious tourism awards culminating in being inducted into the North Queensland Tourism "Hall of Fame" in 2009. In the year 2000 an old run down building was purchased and with lots of commitment, thoughtfulness and hard work, the Tea Rooms were transformed back to its former glory and as we see them today, was opened for business in 2005. The business has continued to prosper and grow in its short life and along with a very good following and new custom it delivers a unique experience in this type of dining found nowhere else in Queensland. Kopi Luwak, the rarest coffee beverage on earth was first introduced to Australia at the Tea Rooms in November 2006 giving the Tea Rooms local, national and international exposure. The Tea Rooms offers this rare coffee at $50 a cup and it is well known by visitors to the Tea Rooms who buy a cup for either a special occasion or for it's exotic smooth taste.
The Heritage Tea Rooms can truly be described as "one of a kind" in Australia.
